The How to Breakthrough Visibility Blocks in Entrepreneurship Series Part Two: Where Voice + Visibility Blocks in Business Really Come From

Voice + Visibility·Kylie Patchett·Oct 30, 2025· 9 minutes

In Part 1 of The How to Breakthrough Visibility Blocks in Entrepreneurship Series: Strategy Alone Will not Fix your Fear of Being Seen + Heard in Business we covered how strategy alone is not enough and how voice + visibility fears are connected to your unique energy + flow.

You’ve probably heard it all before:

 “Just post more.”
“Stick to the script, it works for everyone.”
“Try harder. Be more consistent.”
“You’re overcomplicating it  -  just do XYZ.”

That’s the party line in the online business world.

But here’s the truth: your fears stopping you being seen and heard aren’t about laziness, lack of discipline, or not following the right guru. They weren’t plucked out of thin air.

They were carved into your nervous system, your psyche, and your body over years of surviving in a world that benefits when women stay palatable, polite, and predictable.

They Don’t Burn Witches Anymore - They Don’t Need to

They trained us to burn ourselves, to stay quiet, to play nice, stay safe. AKA invisible.

And then the bro marketing brigade will say, if you need more eyeballs on your work. Just post more funnels. Fix everything. Stick to the script.

But strategy on top of a body that does not yet feel safe to be seen and heard is a meltdown waiting to happen and setting yourself up to fail, and it has got to stop.

If your nervous system slams on the brakes every time that you show.

That is not a mindset problem. It is not a strategy problem. It is a visibility wound.

This series is designed to help you see that these are just learned limitation - and therefore can be unlearned..

And help you burn the good girl gag, and finally shift the freedom frequency that allows your unapologetic truth and wild woman magnetism to ripple out into the world.

It’s Not Just “Conditioning”

Yes, we learn these patterns through childhood - through the many external and environmental factors that taught us how we had to be to be safe, loved and approved of.

You know the drill:

  • Don’t be so loud.
  • Stop being bossy.
  • Don’t show off.
  • Be nice if you want to be liked.
  • Girls don’t speak up
  • Kids should be seen + not heard
  • Your job is to take care of everyone else

And it’s not just these message, deeper still, these blocks also come from:

  • Little t trauma → the micro-cuts, the everyday shaming, the eye rolls, the times you dared to shine and got smacked down.

  • Big T trauma → the too-much to process moments that forced your nervous system to shut down (and choose freeze, fawn, flight, fight) for survival.

  • Collective consciousness BS → the cultural, familial, ancestral, societal and yes patriarchal BS scripts that whisper what “success” should look like, and if you were gender socialised as a female … how “good girls/women/wives/daughers” behave and continue to disconnect us from our source of truth + power… so we can stay soft, small and malleable and tow the party line.

So when you’re staring at the blank screen wondering why it feels terrifying to hit publish, or find yourself in analysis paralysis about the next right biz move, or get stuck getting ready to get ready with just one more certificate in a bid to feel worthy  -  it’s not because you’re flaky or weak or stupid or somehow wrong.

It’s because your body remembers what happened last time you stood out, owned your power, spoke up … and felt unsafe, rejected, judged, cast out or cut off from love.

From day one, most of us were trained out of the truth of who we are.

In school, you might’ve been rewarded for fitting neatly in the box, not for blazing your own trail. At home, maybe you learned that love was conditional  -  safe only when you didn’t rock the boat. In workplaces, you saw loud, opinionated women labelled “too much” while compliant ones got promoted.

We internalise that shit fast.

It teaches us: If I want to belong, I need to shrink. If I want to succeed, I need to swallow my fire. If I want to be loved, I need to stay palatable.

That’s how fear frames get built. That’s why so many creative, artistic, rebellious entrepreneurs are still holding back even after they start their own business.

Because the old training didn’t evaporate just because you opened your doors or hung a website online.

Safety vs Strategy

Here’s the part most people don’t get: these blocks aren’t mindset issues or practical issues that get magicked away by pushing through them or throwing some one size fits all five step freaking process on top.. At the very heart, they’re SAFETY issues.

Your nervous system’s entire job is to keep you alive. If being visible once felt unsafe  -  whether because of trauma, shame, or cultural programming  -  your body will throw up a red flag every time you’re about to step out again.

That’s why slapping strategy on top of fear doesn’t work. It’s like building a skyscraper on a cracked foundation. Sure, it might look shiny for a second, but it’s going to topple the minute the wind (in this case fear, doubt, being seen + heard) picks up.

You don’t need more external solutions.

What you really need is to recalibrate to an internal sense of safety - and more specifically safety being seen, heard and recognised - just for being you.

When Visibility Blocks + Unconscious Fear Drive the Business Bus

Here’s how it plays out in business:

  • You get an idea, but instead of taking action, you swirl in procrastination and self-doubt.

  • You primp and polish your brand, your offers, your posts until they’re so sterilised, so vanilla vague that your soulmate clients can’t even feel YOU - let alone pay you.

  • You overdeliver to undercharge because asking for what you’re really worth makes you want to gag or your internal people pleaser just wants to help everyone.

  • You burn out chasing “shoulds” instead of building a business on your own design and in alignment with your own values.

That’s not laziness or lack of discipline. That’s fear at the wheel.

And until you notice it, you’ll keep thinking:

“I just need more strategy”,

“I just need the perfect mentor”,

“I just need to try harder”.

When what you really need is to unhook fear from the driver’s seat and let your wild woman authentic Self underneath all the layers of conditioning and learned limitations take the wheel.

The Collective Consciousness Lie

Let’s not forget: these blocks don’t just come from your personal story. They’re also baked into the air we breathe - specially in the wild, wild west of online business and social media saturation.

The collective tells us:

  • Success = hustle harder.

  • Health = be smaller, thinner, prettier.

  • Safety = don’t be controversial.

  • Power = reserved for men in suits.

It’s insidious. Even when you “know better,” the cultural coding runs deep. Like they say, you can’t see the ocean you’re swimming in while swimming in it.

Which is why so many rebels, revolutionaries, and paradigm-shifters find themselves unconsciously playing by the rules of a game they were never meant to play in the first place - and trying to smoosh their unicorn unique sparkly star shaped brilliance into some boring beige “right way” rules.

I don’t know about me, but that whole ‘right way’ rules shit gives me the ick.

The Good News

If you learned it, you can unlearn it.

Voice + visibility blocks are not life sentences. They’re patterns  -  energetic pathways that have been laid down and repeated so often that they’ve become the background thermostat or “set point” for your business - and your entire life.

The fact that they are learned limitations also means these patterns can be disrupted, dismantled, and dissolved. . . with love and care and self devotion - not through pushing, striving or trying to pretend, polish or perfect our truth or power away just to maintain the status quo.

The work isn’t to erase your history. It’s to reclaim it. To recognise that your learned limitations were once survival strategies, but they don’t get to run your business anymore.

When you can see them for what they are, you can start to lean in, to alchemise them, and to reclaim the freedom that is there on the flipside of fear.

What Comes Next

In Part 3 of The How to Breakthrough Visibility Blocks in Entrepreneurship Series: Who’s Driving the Bus - Visibility Fear or Visibility Freedom? we’re going to ask the most important question of all:

👉 Who’s actually driving your business  -  your wild woman Self, or the scared parts?

We’ll break down the difference between the two, show you how fear hijacks the wheel through what I call Visibility Fear Frames, and map what it feels like to come home to the grounded, rooted energy of Self so you can speak, sell, and serve from sovereignty.

Because the real power move isn’t just knowing you have blocks. It’s learning to tell, in real time, who’s driving your business  -  fear or freedom.
